Friends who have been dazzled by the cool big screens while walking in the mall, have you ever been curious - what kind of black technology are supported by these giant LED screens that are often tens of meters long? Is it really like what Uncle Wang next door said, "There are tens of thousands of mobile phone screens hidden inside"? Today we will peel off the "coat" of the big screen and see where the real core technology is hidden.
Every large commercial screen you stare at is actually a "technological stitching monster". Take the most common outdoor advertising screen as an example. It has to do three things at the same time:
• Can see clearly at noon (bright enough)
• No whitening on rainy days (contrast is high enough)
• Watch for three hours without blindness (refresh rate is fast enough)
The curved screen made for an island in Southeast Asia last year is a typical example. The local sunshine intensity can reach 120,000 lux (harder than the desert), and ordinary screens will become "blind" by noon. Later, we used a self-developed intelligent light-sensing system with a peak brightness of 7500cd/m², and now we can still clearly see the chocolate chips in the ice cream advertisement at noon.
1. The arrangement of lamp beads should be careful
There are two common structures on the market: formal and inverted. The flip-chip structure directly welds the chip to the substrate, which increases the heat dissipation efficiency by 40%. It is especially suitable for large screens in shopping malls that need to work continuously for more than 18 hours. There is a customer who installed a window display in Tokyo. It has been three years since he installed a display screen, but he has not changed a single lamp bead.
2. Driver chip is vital
A good driver chip can make the screen as smart as a chameleon. For the fence screens we make for sports venues, the chip can automatically adjust the brightness according to the on-site light, slowly decreasing from 5000cd/m² during the day to 800cd/m² at night. Not only does it save power, but it is also comfortable for the audience to watch.
3. The cabinet is the real model worker
The aluminum-magnesium-zinc alloy cabinet sounds ordinary, but actually hides a lot of knowledge. It must not only withstand the severe cold of minus 20°C, but also withstand the vibration of stage equipment. The stage floor tile screen of the last concert was stamped on by dancers for three hours, and when it was taken apart the next day, there was not even a scratch.
Now let’s talk about the part that you are most confused about – the control system. This thing is like the "brain nerve" of a large screen, and something might go wrong:
The curved advertising screen we made for Singapore went a long way: five sets of sending cards were used for signal redundancy backup. Even if two sets of signals were interrupted, the picture would still be smooth. When there was a power outage during a typhoon last year, all the screens in the surrounding shops went out, but they were still broadcasting heavy rain safety warnings.
Q: They say heat dissipation is important, but how important is it?
To give a real example: Due to a heat dissipation design error, the brightness of an atrium screen in a shopping mall dropped by 35% after half a year. Later, the heat dissipation plan was redesigned and four sets of lateral turbo fans were added. Now, the brightness has only dropped by 8% in two years.
Q: What is the concept of refresh rate 1920Hz?
Let’s put it this way, the scan lines that appear when taking pictures of ordinary screens with mobile phones are like magic under the 1920Hz refresh rate. The floor tile screen made for the electronic music festival last year could not be seen when hundreds of mobile phones were used to take pictures at the same time. Young people who danced in disco thought it was a black technology.
Let me tell you, choosing a large-screen LED is like looking for a partner. You can't just look at the "appearance" (display effect), but also the "connotation" (technical reserve). I have seen too many cases where people bought second-hand equipment for cheap, but on the day of the event the screen suddenly started flickering - those who didn't know thought they were holding a malfunction art exhibition!
When we make solutions for customers, the technical team always asks three "abnormal questions":
So please remember, reliable technical services are more important than anything else. Just like our 24-hour technical response center, last time a big screen in a shopping mall in Seoul had a convulsion at 2 a.m., and the engineer’s video guided the man on duty to solve the problem in fifteen minutes - this is the real skill hidden behind the scenes!
