What are novices most afraid of when installing LED screens? I obviously spent a lot of money to buy a high-definition screen, but why do videos always have smear when playing them? On the opening day, the advertising screen suddenly became partially black, making the boss jump in fear? You may not have thought that the "brain" hidden behind the display, the grayscale control card, is the key to determining the display effect. Just like when cooking, if you don't control the heat well, no matter how good the ingredients are, they will be ruined.

Two days ago, a friend who owns a gym complained to me. When the large LED screen he bought showed fitness advertisements, members always said that the screen seemed to be foggy. I checked that the power supply and signal lines were all fine, and finally found that the parameters of the control card were not adjusted correctly. This situation is so common that many novices have no idea where this thing is hidden, let alone how to adjust it.

​​To put it bluntly, the control card is the nerve center of the LED screen.​ ​. It has to do three major things: translate the video signal into a language that the screen can understand, control the light and dark changes of each pixel, and coordinate the refresh rhythm of the entire screen. The high-end screens currently on the market can achieve a refresh rate of 1920Hz, which is equivalent to refreshing the image 1920 times in one second. This is all due to the crazy output of the control card behind the scenes.

So where is this precious pimple hidden? There are three common locations:

1. Welded directly into the metal box behind the display screen (more common in large screens with fixed installations)
2. Installed in an independent controller (commonly used for rental screens, convenient for quick disassembly and assembly)
3. Integrated on the sending card (a popular practice for ultra-fine pitch screens)

Here’s a little bit of trivia you may not know: the control card of an outdoor advertising screen must withstand a high temperature of 60°C, while the control card of a transparent screen in a shopping mall must be made thinner than a mobile phone. This is like asking the same person to run a marathon and be able to embroider. The technical difficulty can be imagined.

Speaking of this, you may want to ask: "How can I tell if it is a control card problem? "Remember these symptoms:

• Regular stripes appear on the screen (like snowflakes on old TV sets)
• The color transition is blunt and unnatural (for example, the sunset turns into a splicing of color blocks)
• Display delay in local areas (shadows are dragged behind when people walk by)

Last year, we encountered a difficult situation when we installed a curved screen in a shopping mall in Southeast Asia. The display is normal during the day, but the screen flashes every night when the passenger flow peaks. Later it was discovered that the heat sink of the control card was too small and it stopped working when the temperature increased. There is a misunderstanding to be reminded: the more expensive the control card, the better. For indoor screens like those used in gyms, a basic model with gamma correction is enough. It would be a waste to force a high-end card. But if it is a stadium ring screen, it must use professional-grade products that support multi-zone control.

There is an interesting trend recently. Control cards have begun to play "invisibility". For example, in the transparent window screen we made for luxury stores, the control card is directly embedded in the aluminum alloy frame, and the thickness is only 3.8mm. There is also a control card for the dance floor tile screen, which has a waterproof rating of IP68 and can still work even after being soaked in water for half an hour.

When it comes to maintenance, remember these "three don'ts": don't use ordinary USB flash drives to transfer programs (it can carry viruses), don't run it at full capacity for a long time (it's recommended to shut it down for 2 hours a day), and don't remove the casing and adjust parameters yourself (moving jumpers may burn the screen). There was a milk tea shop owner who randomly adjusted the gamma value. As a result, the matcha green on the new product poster was displayed as fluorescent green. Customers thought that the pigment he used at home exceeded the standard.
