Are you bosses confused by various transparent screen parameters recently? What about 90% transmittance, P5 pixel pitch, IP65 protection level...​ ​How to choose these numbers so as not to waste money? ​ ​Last week, I just helped a chain convenience store to renovate 12 window displays. I will use actual testing experience to tell you which parameters are really useful and which ones are purely IQ taxes!

1. Is the higher the permeability, the better?

Pour cold water on it first——​ ​When the transparency exceeds 85%, it begins to affect the display effect! ​ ​It's like looking at the scenery through a screen window. The larger the screen holes (higher permeability), the better the light will be transmitted, but the picture will look like a mosaic. The actual measured data speaks:

• Clothing store window: 75-80% is the most suitable (can display models without blocking store furnishings)
• Shopping mall glass curtain wall: 82-85% optimal balance point (to ensure the clarity of advertising images)
• Jewelry counter: 90% can be achieved for special needs (but must be matched with 4000cd/m² ultra-high brightness)

The 86% transparency screen installed in a duty-free store in Southeast Asia last year is a typical case - the products are transparent and natural during the day, and automatically switch to a 4K advertising screen at night. The electricity bill is 28% lower than the traditional film solution.

2. 3 hidden parameters that must be seen when purchasing

1. Box heat dissipation structure

Don't be fooled by appearances! ​ ​The heat generated by the transparent screen is 1.8 times that of ordinary screens.​ ​, you must look at these two points:

• The proportion of heat dissipation holes is ≥15% (preferably with a dust filter)
• Aluminum substrate thickness ≥2mm (too thin and easily deformed)

2. Maintenance channel design

The worst situation I have ever encountered: to replace a lamp bead, you have to dismantle the entire screen! Smart buyers now demand:

• Front maintenance structure (can be repaired by standing on a ladder)
• Modular power supply (if it breaks, just plug it in and replace it)

3. Install the adaptation system

Focus on these three points:

• Whether to have a gravity sensor (to prevent the glass curtain wall from exceeding the load-bearing limit)
• Is there a curvature adjustment function (essential for curved windows)
• Does it support multi-screen linkage (remote management of chain stores)

Personal experience of stepping into pitfalls

After working in display screen engineering for more than ten years, I discovered a strange phenomenon:​ ​The more a supplier brags about parameters, the worse its after-sales service will be! ​ ​Last year, a customer was deceived into buying a "military-grade protection" transparent screen. As a result, during the rainy season, fish could be raised on the screen...

Now let me teach you a trick - bring a flashlight to inspect the goods! Turn on the flash of your mobile phone and hold it against the back of the screen.​ ​Good products are those with even light transmission and no dark spots​ ​. No matter how good the parameters are, they are not as good as the actual demonstration. Remember to ask the supplier to bring a prototype for on-site testing!

(Tips: Some manufacturers with ridiculously low quotations actually recycle glass substrates. This kind of screen will have uneven light transmission after half a year, so don’t be greedy for cheap! )
