Recently, when I was helping a friend decorate a conference room, he suddenly asked me: "Many companies are now replacing large LED screens. How is this thing better than a projector?" "This question stopped me in my tracks - indeed, the shopping mall advertisements, concert stages, and even the display screens in subway stations that we usually see all seem to use LED technology. Today we will discuss why this kind of luminous screen can replace projection equipment.
Let’s talk about the most intuitive feeling first. Have you ever noticed that you always have to close the curtains and turn off the lights when using a projector for a meeting? Last week I went to a friend's company and the lights were turned on in their conference room. As a result, the projection screen was completely white, as if it was fogged. LED screens don’t have this problem at all, after all, they are self-illuminating technology. Take our common outdoor billboards as an example. They can still be seen clearly under the bright sun. This kind of brightness cannot be compared with equipment that reflects light.
Brightness contrast Directly determines the breadth of usage scenarios. In a well-lit environment, the projector is like a person who has not woken up, and the brightness cannot be improved at all. The professional-grade LED screen can achieve ultra-high brightness of 4000-7500 nits, which is equivalent to the brightness of lighting 300 energy-saving lamps at the same time. What’s even more amazing is the current smart dimming technology, like the window screens we make for shopping malls, which can automatically increase the brightness during the day to attract attention, and lower the brightness at night to avoid dazzling the eyes. Projectors with adaptive capabilities cannot do this.
speaking of Picture quality , this is the highlight. Last month, I personally saw two screens displayed side by side: the 4K projection on the left and the P2.5 small-pitch LED on the right. When the same video of the underwater world was played, the corals in the LED screen were so bright that they looked like they were about to swim out, but the projected image looked like a faded old photo. Why is the gap so big? Because each pixel of the LED emits light independently, the contrast ratio can reach 10,000:1, which is more than 20 times that of ordinary projection.
Let’s talk again Installation and maintenance This is a headache. In the past, when I helped install projectors in schools, I had to hang up the screen and adjust the focus, which might lead to trapezoidal deformation. Nowadays, the new LED screen adopts a quick-detachable box design, and two people can build a 6-square-meter display wall in half an hour. The front desk sign installed for customers last week was even more exaggerated. Just snap the modules into the frame like building Lego. In terms of maintenance, there is no need to worry about the life of the bulb. The average time between failures of the LED screen can reach 50,000 hours, which is enough for 13 and a half years based on 10 hours of use per day.
Some people may ask: "Is this thing expensive?" "Let’s do some long-term accounting: although an ordinary projector can be purchased for two to three thousand, the bulb and filter must be replaced every year, and the maintenance fee for three years is enough to buy a new one. Although the initial investment for LED screens is higher, there is no need to replace core components for 10 years. For example, the poster screens we make for chain stores have a failure rate of less than 2% during the five-year warranty period. The maintenance cost saved is enough to buy half a set of equipment.
There was another interesting case recently. The customer wanted a display window that could both play advertisements and be interactive, so we made him a transparent LED wall with a transparency rate of 86%. It is an ordinary display window during the day and turns into an AR interactive screen at night. Customers can play somatosensory games through the glass. This kind of gameplay cannot be achieved with a projector - you can't just project a shadow on the glass and expect people to interact with it, right?
Speaking of this, a detail suddenly came to mind: last month at the exhibition, I saw someone using an LED floor tile screen to display products. When you step on it, there will be a special water ripple effect. This kind of creative display cannot be achieved by changing the projection screen, but relies on the modular nature of the LED screen. If you want to make a circle, just make a circle. If you want to make a wavy shape, just make a wavy shape. There are no restrictions on the shape at all. No wonder stage designers now love to use this, the visual effect is really shocking.
But having said that, choosing equipment depends on actual needs. If it is just for temporary use, or if the budget is really limited, a projector is not something you can't get by with. But if you want to use it stably for a long time, especially in situations where high-definition picture quality, intelligent control, and special styling are required, the advantages of LED screens are too obvious. Just like buying a car, choosing an economical model for transportation, and choosing a luxury model to save face, the same principle applies to display equipment.
